You can get all the information about this cancer from google search
Leukemia is cancer of the bloodstream. The fact that it is chronic instead of acute may be a "plus" although that could change. As far as I know, it is not curable without chemotherapy and it may not be curable even with it. The pill that he takes once a day is probably helping him to manage it quite well. He may never need to take chemotherapy. I certainly hope that's the case.
sorry but chemo has to be a part of it for it to work for his good.
CML is disease where there are too many white blood cells produced by the bone marrow.Bone marrow cells or blasts develop into several different types of blood cells that have specific jobs to do in the body.CML affects the blasts that are developing into white blood cells. The blasts do not mature and become too numerous. There are several phases. The chronic phases is when the are few blasts in the blood.Accelerated is when there are more blasts in the blood and marrow and, fewer normal cells. The blastic phase is when there are more than 30% of blasts in the blood and marrow. At this stage ,tumors can form in the bone and lymph nodes. The final stage is refractory. The leukemia cells do not decrease even with treatment.Treatment varies by stage with chemo being used for just about every stage. Many times high dose chemo with radiation followed by bone marrow transplant is used. For the later stages, chemo and radiation is given to relieve symptoms from tumors that may develop in the bones or lymph nodes.Unfortunately, chemo is used for all stages and is needed in order to achieve the best chance of cure.
