Please help!?

i took too much advil about 5 days ago and ever since ive been getting pain/discomfort under my left rib cage. do you think its anything serious?

ibuprofen is extremely harsh on the stomach, that's probably what you are feeling. Depending on how many you took I would say its not the end of the world. Dr's prescribe Motrin at 800mg (4 Advil's) and sometimes 2 1600 mg (8 Advil's)

First, how many, what strength and WHY. Most painkillers are broken down via the liver, so I am glad you said left side. The liver is on the right side. If overdose occurs you could go into liver failure which could cause excessive clotting or hemorrhaging of the blood or even death. Kidneys excrete many meds., drink lots of water, if it has been 5 days you are most likely o.k., BUT , please call a poison hot line and a doctor. You may need labs drawn, or it could be a cry for help. Please see a doctor ASAP.

I am a pharmacy tech and there is no such thing as a doc giving more than 800mg every 4-6 hours. Not knowing how much you took I would say call a nurse advise line if your not willing to call a doc. They can give advise without knowing who you are. Over dosing on advil would hurt your kindneys which would hurt in your lower back to one side or the other.

Very good observation. Advil can cause stomach ulcers. I would consult a doctor. My son had this problem, and when he stopped using Advil and ate bland foods, it cleared up. BUT don't take my word for it, ask your doctor, and if it is getting really bad, go to the ER.
