Just got back from spain and got prickly heat again! Its very annoying as i have darkish skin and use a very high factor sun screen.Anyone got any ideas how to treat it when this happens or even how to prevent it ?
Answer:
I agree prickly heat is very annoying!
I'm not a dermatologist but if I remember correctly prickly heat is effectively an allergic reaction to the ultraviolet light.
The only way to prevent it by using high SPF creams/ sunblock or avoiding the UV light. Antihistamines will reduce the allergic reaction once it has occurred but I suppose you could try and prevent it with them.
apply cucumber juice to skin.
Calamine lotion will cool the skin down you can buy it at the local supermarket or chemist
Oat meal bath did the trick for me when i took a trip to Egypt. Not Actual oatmeal. But if you go to the pharmacy, they will know what your talking about.. its cheap too!
I use calamine lotion, it's great, it just takes all the itch away and smells nice too!!
You can use prickly heat powder or cream. They have a very cooling effect. The cream lasts longer. Check your pharmacist. Or you could check out the pakistani/indian grocery stores.
take some anti-histamin tablets like benydryl before you go on holiday they may help also try calamine lotion.
Next time you know you are going to be exposed to sunlight for an extended period see your doctor and ask him/her to prescribe an antihistamine for you.

Prevention is better than cure?
They say prevention is better than cure, but sometimes we dont no what damage we are causing ourselves. It might be cause we did this damage when we was young an it is paying off in later life or that we just didnt know. Either way some things can not be helped if you do not understand what damage you are doing to your body. What part of you do you wish you could have a second go with now you are more wiser?
If you have no problems then no need to comment.Ill start, mine is my teeth although I cleaned them it runs in my family for weak teeth so now I am older its starting to pay and its all coming at once.
Answer:
I'll agree with the teeth. Mine were fine and I was complacent, and then when I got pregnant each time with my two children they pretty much crumbled away for nine months. My dentist has warned me if I have any more kids my teeth wont survive it. But if I had developed better habits rather than presuming they would always be as good as they were then it might have been less dramatic
i wish i'd been at bit more risk taking,
now i'm really cautious about everything i do
I have a bad sunburn on my back that won't go away for years.
I was vacationing in a nice, picturesque resort island 3 years go... but I didn't sunbath. I just swam and played in the water for hours. I did apply sunscreen spf 50 waterproof before I got into the water. But you know how there're just some spot that we cn't reach on our back. And I forgot to ask my friend to apply it for me, because I was to excited to go snorkeling. Afterwards...the skin on my back was burning. I applied aloe cream right away. But the pain won't go away for weeks. Three years... it's getting better now, but still there're frekles and light brown spotchesand my tank top's line. I'm still self-concious about it whenever I wear backless top. If I have a second chance...well you know what would I do...
Are you for real, sounds like i know what part you need. A BRAIN. ( sorry, had to be said!)
My maternal grandmother was an alcoholic. My mother is a neurotic. I am only manic depressive. My system was genetically affected through my maternal grandmothers' alcoholism.
Now i treat the cause and not the symptoms.
I avoid pharmaceutcal solutions.. Treat the cause, not the symptoms.
There no piont in saying, i wish i had, if you can't take life as a learning curve your old age will hurt even more ...

Prevention is better than cure "OR" Cure is better than prevention?
I think people will choose prevention is better than cure but are they prevent before cure? Or people just look at fact?
Answer:
PREVENTION PREVENTION PREVENTIONIn all cases. Once something happens where a cure is needed to fix it, it has gone beyond the point of ever returning to it's natural state. Even if a cure is found and applied, it can never be as good or as similar as it once was.Example:You accidentally put a hole in a wall. You can calk it, re-plaster it, re-paint it, but it will always be suseptable and vulnerable, because it is weaker. Same with a broken bone, aging skin, etc.
If you prevent then there is no need for a cure. But a cure is nice when there is an unfortunate reason for it.
"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" ."they" always say. :)
Of course prevention is better than cure.

Preventing diabetes?
how can i prevent diabetes? i really need to know becausei'm getting tested in july...so yea.
Answer:
If you have a genetic tendancy for diabetes, there is probably not much you can do to prevent getting it.Probably the one most important step is to Keep your way under control.
Preventing Type 2 diabetes is to low your sugar intake and exercise so you're not overweight but I'm not sure how you would prevent Type 1 diabetes.
Best way to prevent Diabetes Type 2 is by diet and exercise. The reason people get diabetes is because of the ount of fat on them. When that happens, insulin resistence occurs, hence one needs insulin shots to compensate. So eat healthy and decrease amount of carbs/sugar and hit the gym girl!
preventing the disease diabetes?take good care of your self, now if you already messed that up?I'll tell you my story and my brothers,OK?here's mine, i was pre diabetic, my blood sugars i couldn't seem to get under control, so i changed my diet, got regular exercise, and now, I'm all clear as long as i continue to take good care of myself, my doctor said, i turned back the hands of time!my brother, has a job on the road, hes a single guy,he never cooked for himself, he ate breakfast, lunch, dinner at fast food places everyday, he was tired, gain a lot of weight, eye sight was getting bad, and some other things, like headaches and stuff, while talking to someone who was diabetic, this person-noticed the severe signs and had him go directly to Doctor, where the doctor put him in hospital for 2 weeks, he under went classes on insulin shots and learning how to eat properly, when he got out of hospital, he cleaned his whole house and fridge of bad foods, his new fast food place became subway, it is really good for you,he started exercising, lost 90 pounds and turned his life around, no more diabetic meds ,no more insulin, no more diabetes as long as he takes care of himself, so just ex cerise and eat healthy, you should be fine!!!!!!
One type is genetic and not preventable. It is an autoimmune disease. The other type is prevented by eating a ketogenic diet.
If it runs in your family then you may be predisposed to getting it. But, If you eat healthy ALL the time, Lots of whole grain foods, food in the low G.I., restrict sugars and fats, exercise ... you may keep it all in check.. you do NOT have to be fat or obese to get this disease or drink alcohol. (People that are over-weight, drink alcohol and eat a high content of fats and sugars can become diabetic... but not always. ) So bottom line is IF it runs in your family take precautions NOW and eat accordingly and exercise. You can stay prediabetic and keep it all in check and never hit Type 2... its up to you.

Prevent spread of athlete's foot?
I have been living with athlete's foot for years and it has never spread to any other areas of my body or to anyone else, but I'm worried that it will one day. How do I prevent the spread of athlete's foot? And if my feet does not show any signs of infection, does that mean that the fungus can't spread? Sometimes my athlete's foot goes away, or is not noticeable such as when winter comes.
Answer:
Athlete's foot is caused by a fungus that likes moist, warm feet. Add a huge accent on "moist", as it will not grow without moisture. The first thing to do is dry your feet after you wash them. Then wear cotton socks only, until the condition is alleviated. Check out the shoes you are wearing as tight, restraining, shoes contribute to sweating and dampness, and they inhibit evaporation. Open shoes/sandals are a great idea. Change the socks whenever they get wet. Use rubbing alcohol after your feet are dry. This will not necessarily kill the fungus, but it will dry the skin more than a towel can do, and it will inhibit growth of the fungus.Use medication on your feet. There are several medications available from your local pharmacy. Talk to the pharmacist about it. Powders may be best, as they help to keep the foot dry for a longer time. Clean out the powder when you change socks and/or shoes. If you feel the problems is serious, discuss it with your doctor.
